Sip, Nourish, and Celebrate Black Food Culture
From the joy-filled energy of BLK Wine Fest to the Inverted Food Pyramid for 2025 and Caribbean-inspired cooking with Taste Maker Jehan Powell, this week’s AFRO Table explores how culture, health, and flavor meet at the table.

This week’s AFRO Table brings together culture, wellness, and flavor in one thoughtfully curated issue. We spotlight BLK Wine Fest, highlighting how the festival is creating space for Black winemakers, community connection, and joyful celebration through wine, music, and shared experiences. We also dig into The Afro News’ exploration of the Inverted Food Pyramid for 2025, unpacking how shifting nutritional priorities are reshaping the way we think about health, balance, and what truly belongs at the center of our plates. Rounding out the issue is our Taste Maker feature on Jehan Powell, the voice behind Jehan Can Cook, whose Caribbean-inspired recipes and accessible cooking style continue to make cultural tradition feel both vibrant and achievable in everyday kitchens.
BLK Wine Fest: A Celebration of Wine, Culture, and Community
Each Valentine’s Day, wine enthusiasts gather for a festival that’s as much about heart and heritage as it is about great wine. BLK Wine Fest 26 returns on Saturday, February 14, 2026, transforming Cincinnati, Ohio into a lush canvas of Black excellence in wine, culture, and community.
At its heart, BLK Wine Fest is a space for discovery. Guests sample a wide range of wines crafted by Black vintners from across the country, many of whom are redefining the industry with innovative techniques, sustainable practices, and deeply personal approaches to winemaking. The atmosphere is welcoming and celebratory, making the festival equally enjoyable for longtime wine lovers and first-time tasters.
Beyond the wine, BLK Wine Fest feels like a cultural gathering. Live music provides an easy rhythm throughout the event, food vendors offer dishes designed to complement the wines, and conversations flow naturally between pours. Educational moments are woven in as well, giving attendees the chance to hear directly from winemakers about their journeys, their craft, and the realities of building businesses in a traditionally exclusive industry.

More than anything, BLK Wine Fest is about visibility and support. It creates intentional space to celebrate Black excellence in wine, foster community, and encourage attendees to discover brands they can continue to support long after the festival ends.
Tickets for BLK Wine Fest can be purchased directly through the official website. Ticket options may include general admission and VIP experiences, with early purchase strongly recommended as events often sell out. Ticket details, event dates, locations, and included amenities are all outlined online. Visit blkwinefest.com to purchase tickets and review entry details.
BLK Wine Fest is not just a tasting event. It’s a gathering rooted in culture, creativity, and community, inviting everyone to raise a glass in celebration of Black voices shaping the future of wine.
